A Message From the Dean
Spring 2008
Historically speaking, university extended education units have mainly served the local and regional communities by extending the educational resources of the university. They have done so by offering off-campus programs, developing market-driven, learner-focused programs. While that trend continues, continuing education programs today are increasingly serving the global market via online as well as on-site programs, and also in partnership with overseas institutions.
To meet the growing management training needs of China, the College of Extended Learning recently established the China Programs Office. For Chinese government officials, university faculty and staff, as well as for public and private industry professionals, the China Programs Office offers a one-stop resource for global management training, professional development, intercultural exchange, and educational programs. It is best suited for mid-career professionals and executives from China in various academic disciplines as well as programs in U.S. culture and values, English language, business and social etiquette, organizational practices and protocol, and corporate and government culture.
The College of Extended Learning at CSUSB has been involved in training Chinese officials and professionals for several years. We offer over 100 long-term and short-term programs annually serving almost 1,000 Chinese participants. With that kind of extensive experience, the China Programs Office will advance creating strategic partnerships between CSUSB and Chinese institutions and foster an understanding of history, cultures, and values between the two countries. It will also increase CSUSB’s visibility in China through various educational programs.

Sincerely,

Dr. Jeet Joshee, Dean College of Extended Learning
