A Message From the Dean
Spring 2009
Welcome to the College of Extended Learning. In these times of economic challenges, education becomes ever more important in providing opportunities to gain new skills or prepare for a new career that can help you adjust to new market demands. The College of Extended Learning invites you to explore a wide array of programs and courses that might help you achieve your goals. Leafing through this catalog, you will find courses for your professional and personal growth and enrichment.
In addition to the courses listed in this catalog, the College of Extended Learning offers programs that are tailored to the needs of individual groups such as educational agencies and businesses, both domestic and international.
After graduating our first cohort of students in the MBA for Executives program in December 2008, we are preparing for a new cohort in fall 2010. This program combines academic excellence with a convenient course schedule that accommodates busy professionals, and offers outstanding personal attention to the needs of its participants. Please visit our MBA for Executives Web page or call (909) 537-5981 if you are interested in joining the fall cohort.
The College of Extended Learning is expanding its International Extension Programs and has added new partnerships that are enriching the life of the university. The College is now hosting a group of 42 students from Bahçesehir University in Istanbul, Turkey, who have been studying English and staying with host families learning American culture firsthand.
Working with our Korea Center, this winter the College started another new program with the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education to provide training for their English language teachers. A group of 22 Korean teachers from Seoul came to San Bernardino to improve their English language skills as well as their teaching methods so that they can be more effective in the classroom. As part of the program, they visited San Bernardino elementary schools where they observed real classrooms and applied their newly acquired skills.
This spring, the first cohort of Chinese students studying for the TESOL certificate will complete the program that the College of Extended Learning offers in collaboration with the College of Education. Our student audiences are becoming more diverse as we cross borders and globalize our programs.
We look forward to providing you opportunities for career advancement or for your personal enrichment.
Sincerely,

Dr. Tatiana Karmanova, Acting Dean
