A Message From the Dean
Summer 2009
Welcome to the College of Extended Learning! Summer is here, which means it’s time to explore new places, new opportunities and new careers. We invite you to examine our wide array of programs and courses that can help you achieve your personal and professional goals. Leafing through this catalog, you will find courses for your professional and personal growth and enrichment. Many of our offerings are online which means you can take them any time from the comfort of your own home.
Summer is a great time for teachers to prepare for the next academic year. We offer professional development programs and courses, both online and on campus, that offer practical skills, relevant knowledge and continuing education credit for educators. Choose from learning and teaching strategies, the Certificate in Technology Integration or the Primary Reading Development certificate. Also, the next cohort for the School Business Management certificate program will start this summer.
Many international students will be coming to Cal State San Bernardino in the summer to improve their English language skills through our American Culture and Language Program before entering the university. And the College will be hosting several summer camps for students from China, Brazil and other parts of the world.
In addition to the courses listed in this catalog, the College of Extended Learning offers programs that are tailored to the needs of individual groups such as universities, educational agencies and businesses, both domestic and international.
Continuing our partnership of many years, the College will host a group of more than 40 MBA students from Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers, Paris, France. They come to take courses in marketing management, entrepreneurship and international finance, but their course experience will be enriched with guest lectures by CEOs and CFOs and visits to local businesses.
Summer will be also a busy time for our TESOL Training Institute which provides hands-on experience for English teachers from the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education, Seoul, Korea. As part of the program, participating teachers will be visiting San Bernardino schools and observing American classrooms. They will have an opportunity to share their culture with American students and practice their teaching methods. Participants will get immersed in the American culture by staying with host families and visiting the Getty Center and other museums in the area.
We look forward to an exciting summer and hope you can join us.
Sincerely,

Dr. Tatiana Karmanova, Acting Dean
