A Message From the Dean
Winter 2008
Welcome to winter quarter 2008 and to the College of Extended Learning where education is a lifelong phenomenon for learners of all ages.
This quarter, I am pleased to share great news with you that the Bernard Osher Foundation has established a $1 million endowment that will support the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at California State University, San Bernardino. For the last four years, the Osher Institute has been offering educational programs to adults ages 50 and better throughout the Coachella Valley--at our Palm Desert Campus, the Palms Springs Art Museum, the La Quinta Public Library and the Trilogy retirement community in La Quinta. And, beginning this past fall, we extended the program in San Bernardino. While the regular Osher classes are held at the new Mentone Senior Center and Library, Osher participants also have the opportunity to engage in many CSUSB activities and programs at our main campus in San Bernardino.
In 2007, Osher enrollment exceeded 800 participants in 60 different six-week long classes. We anticipate that the program will continue to grow as more people have shown greater interest in this unique learning opportunity. For more information on our Osher program, visit http://cel.csusb.edu/osher.html.
Helping learners of all ages and backgrounds realize their lifelong learning goals is one of our core missions. Having the million-dollar endowment will help the College of Extended Learning in its long-standing commitment to offer programs to the retirement community in the Inland Empire.
Sincerely,

Dr. Jeet Joshee, Dean College of Extended Learning
