About the Desert Studies Center
The California State University system operates a desert field station in the heart of the Mojave Desert near Baker, California. Throughout the
year, the Center hosts a rich variety of desert-oriented courses in several disciplines. While attending courses, students live in dormitory rooms
with desks, bunk beds and mattresses. Other facilities include classrooms, library, laboratory, kitchen, and restroom facilities with hot showers.
(If you have special dietary needs, please let us know in advance.) Information on what to bring with you will be sent to each student prior to the
class meeting.
For complete course descriptions and to register online, see our current course catalog(s).
Directions to the Desert Studies Center: The center is located on Zzyzx Road in Zzyzx, California. Take Interstate 15 north to Zzyzx Road. Follow Zzyzx Road for five miles to the Center.

Refund Policy: Because courses held at the Desert Studies Center require an unusual amount of logistical preparation involving meal planning, etc.,
cancellations must be received in writing at least one week in advance of a course meeting to receive a full refund, less a $10 administrative fee.
Cancellations received during the week prior to the course meeting will result in an additional deduction of $92 (depending on the course). As with
other Extended Learning courses of this length, no refunds will be given for cancellations received after the course begins. In the event that the
College of Extended Learning cancels the course, a full refund of fees will be given.
