About the CSUSB Korea Center
The CSUSB Korea Center is a partnership program between the College of Extended Learning, California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) and Korus (Korea-USA) Education Institute. Through direction and close guidance from CSUSB, the Center offers CSUSB's American Culture and Language Program (ACLP) in Korea and helps students transition to the San Bernardino campus for advanced language study and eventual matriculation to the university. The students can complete up to Level 4 of the ACLP program at the Korea Center in Seoul and, when they are ready, move to San Bernardino.
The CSUSB Korea Center provides an easier access to quality educational opportunities in the U.S. by tackling the many barriers to entry for qualified Korean students. The Korea Center programs are specially designed to meet the unique needs of international students from Korea by addressing the critical issues about studying in the U.S., such as understanding the admission process, developing academic English skills, adjusting to the U.S. academic environment, settling into a new country, and future career advising. The Korea Center only selects eligible students in Korea and provides necessary instructional services, strictly following the academic standards of CSUSB before they move on to degree programs. The Korea Center adequately prepares the students for successful adaptation into a new academic environment in the United States. The Center maintains dedicated advisors and mentors at the San Bernardino campus to assist students with various academic and personal needs. The Korea Center will also act as an intermediary, when needed, between CSUSB and Korean universities.

KOREA CENTER PROGRAMS
• Facilitated Admission to CSUSB
For international students, the CSUSB Korea Center offers an opportunity to substitute the TOEFL requirement with the ACLP English language program offered by the College of Extended Learning at California State University, San Bernardino. The Korea Center offers the exact same ACLP curriculum from San Bernardino to students at its headquarters in Seoul. Students who meet all admission criteria, except for their TOEFL score, are given conditional admission to the university and, once they successfully complete Level 5, they are automatically matriculated to the CSUSB degree program of their choice.
• Admission/Matriculation Process
- Eligibility check
- Selection of students and interview
- Evaluation of students' academic records
- ACLP placement test graded by CSUSB
- ACLP level assignment
- Conditional admission to degree program for qualified students
- ACLP courses (up to level 4) in Korea
- Relocate to CSUSB campus
- ACLP course (level 5) in San Bernardino

• Open University Program
Students who are enrolled in ACLP Level 5 may be allowed to take one regular university course through the Open University program. This provides students the advantage of making progress towards their intended degree by earning academic credits before matriculating to the university.
Taking classes with regular university students also allows language students to practice and hone their language skills. At many English language only schools, the entire student body is made up of non-native English speakers; therefore, it is often difficult to practice speaking English or associate with native speakers. Therefore, the Open University program associated with ACLP is a great benefit to the students.
• American Culture and Language Program (ACLP)
The American Culture and Language Program (ACLP) is designed for international students, visitors and professionals who seek an intensive English experience focusing on reading, writing, comprehension and speaking English, as well as an introduction to American culture. Under the auspices of the College of Extended Learning, ACLP provides a year-round intensive English language program for students preparing to enter an American college or university or for professionals who wish to improve their English. Additionally, short-term conversation-based programs for individuals and custom-designed intensive short-term programs for groups are available. Many ACLP students eventually matriculate to California State University, San Bernardino to pursue undergraduate or graduate degrees.
The ACLP Intensive English program is designed for international students at all levels. It offers classroom instruction four to five hours a day, five days a week (four days a week in summer).
Classes are scheduled in 10-week sessions during fall, winter, spring and summer quarters. In order to maximize learning, students receive individual attention from their instructors. The average class size is usually 15 students or less.
- 10 weeks of instruction per level/session
- TOEFL exam preparation included (intermediate and advanced levels only)
- 6 levels of instruction
- 4-5 hours per day, 5 days per week (4 days per week in summer)
- Successful completion of Level 5 will satisfy the TOEFL requirement for undergraduate admission into CSUSB.
- Successful completion of Level 6 will satisfy the TOEFL requirement for most graduate programs.
- Admission requirements: at least 18 years of age and a high school graduate or approval from IEP.
• Advising and Mentoring Program
The most unique feature of the CSUSB Korea Center program is the special attention and guidance provided to our students on campus. In order to ensure their success, the Korea Center employs a resident advisor on the San Bernardino campus who is available to provide guidance with academic issues, campus life and to address personal adjustment issues for all of our students. These services are essential for successful completion of their degrees, particularly for international students who are not familiar with the US academic system. All students of the Korea Center receive:
- Local area orientation
- Campus tour and greetings with essential school officials
- Initial transportation arrangement
- Bank account set up
- Local bus schedule information
- Initial housing arrangement, communication and submission of applications
- ACLP admission process advising
- ACLP program orientation
- ACLP registration
- ACLP academic advising
- Periodic reporting on student academic progress
- Preliminary career advising
- Summer internship or career advising
- Open University advising
- University class selection or scheduling advising
- Emergency (parent/guardian) contact
