Online Programs
The College of Extended Learning offers online continuing education programs and courses designed to provide you with the workforce skills necessary to acquire professional calibre positions in many in-demand occupations. Through our online education partners, several options are available in the areas of allied health, casino gaming, education, green industry, health science, history and TESOL.

ALLIED HEALTH

• Medical Coding and Billing Online Certificate
This program helps students prepare for careers in outpatient medical coding and billing. Students focus on medical terminology, coding standards, and specific outpatient code sets and spend a large portion of the course gaining hands-on experience designed to help them easily transition to the workplace after graduation. The program’s unique online platform provides access to all program material and interactive learning tools whenever is most convenient for the student, allowing them to study on their own schedules and at their own pace. Though certification is not required for employment, the program also prepares students for the appropriate national certification exams. • Medical Transcription Online Certificate
his course teaches students to understand and spell medical terms with a word building approach. Instead of requiring students to memorize the spelling, meaning, and pronunciation of thousands of complex words, this course focuses on helping them learn the spelling, meaning, and pronunciation of the various word parts that make up medical terms. Students will learn the root words, prefixes, suffixes, and combining forms that make up medical terminology. By learning these individual pieces, students will have the tools they need to understand the basic meaning of any medical word, even those they are unfamiliar with. The focus of this certificate is Reading First, a federally supported program based on the latest scientific research as it applies to reading instruction. You’ll learn a phonetically-based approach to reading assessment, instruction, evaluation and remediation. The College of Extended Learning has partnered with San Diego State University's College of Extended Studies to provide three totally online professional certificate programs in Green Building, Green Energy Management and Sustainable Practices, offering practical training in key growth areas of the green industry. • Basic Audiometry and Hearing Problems
The course leads to the certificate of registration as a school audiometrist, granted by the California Department of Health Services, upon successful completion (4 units, quarter system). GATLIN EDUCATION SERVICES
Through its partnership with Gatlin Education Servicese, the College of Extended Learning offers two types of online learning experiences: complete certificate programs or individual self-study courses. The programs are designed to develop expertise in desired fields and/or prepare you for industry certification exams. Each program has specific learning outcomes related to industry standards. The programs are all open enrollment and interactive and can be completed generally in less than three months.
