Students are required to have completed CJUS 1101 and CJUS 1102 prior to admission to the Criminal Justice Online program. Both CJUS 1101 and CJUS 1102 must be completed with a grade of "C" (2.0) or better.
- CJUS 1101. Introduction to the Criminal Justice System (3 units)
- A descriptive overview of the adult and juvenile justice system, from the commission of crimes and offenses through sentencing and appeal procedures. Criminal justice standards and goals and the relationship of the social and behavioral sciences to criminal justice will be emphasized. Prerequisite: Declared major or minor in criminal justice or social work.
- CJUS 1102. Criminal Law (3 units)
- Historical development of criminal law and its contemporary application. Focus on the interrelationship between criminal law and the criminal justice system.

7 Required Courses
- CJUS 3311. Research Methods in Criminal Justice (3 units)
- Introduction to scientific methodology and research designs used to conduct basic and applied research in the criminal justice field. Emphasis on scientific operationalization, survey methodology and concepts of evaluation design. Prerequisite: CJUS 3320.
- CJUS 3312. Statistics in Criminal Justice (3 units)
- Introduction to statistical reasoning and social science statistics commonly used in criminal justice. Includes descriptive, inferential and predictive statistics, with emphasis on interpretation rather than calculation. Prerequisites: CJUS 3311 and MATH 1110 or 1115 or equivalent.
- CJUS 3320. Theories of Crime and Delinquency (3 units)
- Causes of crime and delinquency with emphasis on sociological factors.
- CJUS 3330. Correctional Theory and Institutions (3 units)
- Explores the history and theory of punishment; overview of history of correctional institutions; analysis and evaluation of contemporary institutional corrections; and consideration of research concerning correctional institutions.
- CJUS 3340. Police and Police Systems (3 units)
- Analysis of police, police systems and the police role; limitations imposed on law enforcement in a democratic society in accordance with the Constitution; problems affecting crime control and the interdependence of police and community.
- CJUS 5598. Integrative Studies in Criminal Justice (3 units)
- Overview and integration of major issues in criminal justice. Cannot be counted toward the MA in Criminal Justice; however, it is a prerequisite for graduate students who do not have a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice. Limited to senior and graduate students. Prerequisites: CJUS 3311 and 3320.
- SSCI 3060. Expository Writing for the Social Sciences (3 units)
- Writing on topics related to the social sciences, including documented research reports, summaries and analytical papers. Revision and rewriting will be required. Course fulfills the graduation requirement in writing proficiency. No more than one of the expository writing courses (EDUC 3060, ENG 3060, HUM 3060, MGMT 3060, NSCI 3060, SSCI 3060) may be taken for credit.
ELECTIVE COURSES (18 units minimum)

Students are required to complete six upper division elective courses to complete their degree. The program offers a wide variety of electives each Semester, and students are provided the opportunity to indicate their preference in electives during each Semester's enrollment period. For the complete list of electives approved for the program (not all courses are offered each term), please refer to the CSUSB Bulletin.
In addition to program requirements, all students must complete a total of 120 semester units to graduate. Students may take additional electives offered by the CJ Online program to complete the unit requirements.
Homeland Security Certificate (6 Courses)
Effective Spring Semester 2021, the Criminal Justice Online program will add a Homeland Security Certificate as an option for students to enroll in as part of their course of study within the CJ Online program. Homeland Security is one of the areas in the field of Criminal Justice that has received growing interest and national attention in recent years, and this certificate program will focus on emerging trends and skills in this rapidly growing field of study.
Students will have the option of completing the six courses below to receive the Homeland Security Certificate from the College of Extended and Global Education. All six courses also go towards the six elective courses required for the B.A. in Criminal Justice Online, so students will be able to complete both their degree program and this certificate program simultaneously.

Students can enroll in these six courses during their main enrollment period each term in the Criminal Justice Online program.
The six courses individually are all for academic credit and will appear on a CSUSB Transcript. The Certificate, however, is issued by the College of Extended & Global Education, and will not appear on a CSUSB Transcript at this time.
