Education Benefits for Military Dependents

Educational benefits are provided for the spouse and dependent children of qualifying veterans and active military service members and may be used towards the following:

  • College degree
  • Courses leading to a certificate
  • Course leading to a diploma from business
  • Technical or vocational schools
  • Apprenticeships
  • On-the-job training programs

California Dependents Education Assistance
The dependent child, spouse or unmarried surviving spouses of a service connected disabled or deceased veteran may be entitled to tuition and fee waiver benefits at any campus of the California State University system as well as other public California colleges.
Chapter 35 (Survivors & Dependents Assistance)
Dependents' Educational Assistance (DEA) provides education and training opportunities to eligible dependents of certain veterans. The program offers up to 45 months of education benefits.
California Fee Waiver (College Fee Waiver Program for Veterans Dependents)
The College Fee Waiver for Veterans Dependents benefit waives mandatory system-wide tuition and fees at any State of California Community College, California State University or University of California campus.
